For example: The goal is to ascertain the unemployment rate, by Autonomous Community, of the partners of those women in heterosexual relationships with 4 or more children, and whose relationship with economic activity consists of performing housework in their homes.
Take the following steps to carry out the search:
1.- Selection of scope: National
2.- Selection of group: Persons resident in family dwellings
3.- Table structure: Places of residence-Current residence-Autonomous Community of residence (in rows or columns)
4.- Filters:
Type of partner (by sex) = different-sex partner;
Sex = Male;
Data on the partner - Relationship with economic activity = Carrying out the household in their home;
Types of cohabitation - With a partner and children = 4 or more (including all children in the family nucleus, regardless of whether they belong to both members of the couple or to one.)
In view of the table generated:
5.- Change the measurement unit: No. of persons by Unemployment rate.
As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, types of cohabitation, except the relationship with the reference person, are not disseminated in areas with fewer than 101 inhabitants.
Social and economic condition
 Classification of the different kinds of socio-economic condition. The socio-economic condition has been obtained by combining the information from the occupation, activity and professional situation variables, in line with the procedures undertaken in the Economically Active Population Survey since 1994. To consult the detailed calculation of the values for this variable, click on here. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, the socio-economic condition is not disseminated for areas with fewer than 101 inhabitants.
Socio-economic condition of the reference person of household
 The socio-economic condition has been obtained by combining the information from the occupation, activity and professional situation variables, as has been carried out in the Economically Active Population Survey since 1994. To consult the detailed calculation of the values for this variable, click on here. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, the socio-economic condition of the reference person of the household is not disseminated for areas with fewer than 101 inhabitants.
Average social and economic condition
 The average socio-economic condition is the arithmetic average of the class scores for socio-economic conditions of those persons from the subgroup considered. In this context, we define the class score as the value by which we have to multiply those belonging to a certain category of a qualitative variable to calculate an average. If you wish to ascertain further details on obtaining class scores, which in turn are based on the socio-economic conditions of each one of the subgroup members, click on here. You may also consult the definition of socio-economic condition if you wish to obtain further information.
Knowledge of own languages
 Classification of the degree of knowledge of the vernacular language. The knowledge of one's own languages had various different formulations, depending on the Autonomous Community. To obtain comparable results, a re-encoding common to all of them has been carried out. The data referring to the original formulations may be consulted in the respective Autonomous Community Statistics Institutes. This variable is available for those persons resident in areas where the knowledge of one's own languages has been researched. Persons have been questioned on the knowledge of their own languages in the Autonomous Communities of the Illes Balears, Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana and País Vasco, as well as Basque and mixed-speaking areas in Comunidad Foral de Navarra. The Navarran municipalities which belong to these areas are the following: (one may click here to access a file of Navarran municipalities belonging to Basque-speaking and mixed areas)

Cohabitation of the children
 This variable is fundamental to making filters in tables that compare the data of each person with those of their father or mother. For example, a goal is to ascertain the average age of children in single-parent nuclei comprising a mother with children, by marital status and the relationship of the mother with economic activity. Take the following steps to carry out the search:
1.- Selection of scope: National.
2.- Selection of group: Persons resident in family dwellings.
3.- Table structure: Data on the mother (marital status and relationship with economic activity) in rows or in columns.
4.- Filters: Belonging to a nucleus = Belonging to a family nucleus as a child, and Type of nucleus = Mother with children. If, instead of filtering by the type of nucleus, the filter is performed by the Type of cohabitation - Cohabitation with children = Child living along with her/his mother, this would also include children from family nuclei comprising a couple in which the mother has children of her own (not belonging to her partner.)
In view of the table generated,
5.- Change the measurement unit: No. of persons by average age.
As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, types of cohabitation, except the relationship with the reference person, are not disseminated in areas with fewer than 101 inhabitants.
The variable "Cohabitation of children" can take the following values: - Child who lives with her/his father and mother.- Child who lives solely with the mother. -Child who lives solely with the father. -Person who lives with neither her/his father nor her/his mother."

With values: Not available, Available in the same municipality, Available in another municipality in the same province, Available in another province, Available in another country. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, this variable is only disseminated grouped by strata for municipalities with fewer than 20,001 inhabitants.
Availability of 2nd dwelling (%)
 For each subgroup, this is calculated by dividing the number of households that have a second dwelling (rented, owned or granted free of charge) that is used on holiday, at weekends, etc., between the total number of households, and multiplying the result by 100.

As with the criterion followed in the previous Censuses, this figures is added to 1: if no person in the household states another as his/her mother or father, the number of generations is 1; if the household is composed by a couple with children, the number will be 2, and so on.
Linked population group
 Grouped classification of the related population. (This variable is only available by means of the "See list of tables" tab). In this Census, the concept of linked population has been created to achieve a better estimate of the real load the population has to tolerate, for example, a municipality by improving the information that the de facto population provided. The linked population is defined as the total persons who may be surveyed (in other words, with residence in Spain) that have some type of customary link with the municipality in question, whether this is because they live there, because they work or study there, or because they usually spend certain periods of time there (summers, long weekends, weekends, etc.). The family nucleus is an intermediate hierarchical unit between the inhabitant and the family and may be of four kinds: a couple without children, a couple with one child or more, a father with one child or more, and a mother with one child or more. In order to be considered part of the family nucleus of their parents, children must not have a partner or have children. This indicator is especially current because of the delay in the age of emancipation, which has been gradually occurring in Spain of late, and the relationship between this phenomenon and the decrease in fertility and ageing of the population. The identification of areas in which this indicator takes higher values can help to specify the causes.

Average level of studies
 Sum of the educational level class scores / Total persons.
It is considered that persons have reached a determined level of learning when they have completed and passed all the academic years of that level, and are therefore eligible to obtain the corresponding qualification or diploma.
Due to the fact that the original values of the level of studies are not suitably proportional, values in the range from 0 to 5 have been used as class scores.
The correspondence between class scores and educational level is the following:
0 = Illiterate persons (persons who do not know how to read or write in any language)
1 = No education or without studies (persons who can read and write but went to school for less than 5 years)
2 = First grade (went to school for 5 years or more without completing GBE, OSE or the first year of GCSE or the equivalent)
2.5 = OSE, GBE (General Basic Education), first year of GCSE or the equivalent
3 = Advanced Post-Secondary Education, BUP (General Upper Secondary Education Certificate), LOGSE Post-Secondary Education, COU (Post-Secondary non-higher Education), PREU (Pre-University Course); Intermediate VT, VT I, Industrial Technician or the equivalent
3.5 = Advanced VT, VT II, Industrial Mastery or the equivalent; University Diploma, Technical Architecture or Engineering; 3 academic years passed of a University Graduate qualification, Engineering or Architecture degree
4 = University Graduate, Engineering or the equivalent
4.5 = Doctorate.
The criterion to assign the above codes has been based on the number of years established to complete each educational level, in such a way that, firstly, two study levels which require a similar number of years will have received the same score, and secondly, the differences between scores will be proportional to the differences in the number of years."
Average level of problems in the dwelling
 The problems with the dwelling collected in the census questionnaire are as follows: outside noise, pollution or bad smells, not very clean streets, poor communications, few green areas, delinquency or vandalism in the area and lack of restroom services. The average level of problems in the dwelling is calculated by averaging out the 7 percentage quotients in this area over the national. Belonging to a family nucleus
 This variable is essential in order to create filters to enable studying certain subgroups separately, for example, the de facto couple subgroup. In this case, when filtering by Type of couple, according to marital status=de facto couple, all persons in a nucleus with this type of couple will be selected, regardless of whether they are parents or children. This happens because the variables calculated for each nucleus, like the type of couple forming it or the type of nucleus (nucleus comprising a couple with children, a mother with children, etc.), have the same value for all the persons in the nucleus. Going back to the previous example, persons who have the Type of couple according to marital status=de facto couple means all persons, either in a couple or not, who are parents or children, who belong to a family nucleus in which the couple in the nucleus, is a de facto couple. To select the persons who actually comprise the couple from all the persons in the nucleus, it is necessary to add the condition: Belonging to a family nucleus=Belongs to a family nucleus as a father, mother or partner. Information can be expanded by checking the Family nucleus entry.

Type of nucleus
 Intermediate hierarchical unit between the inhabitant and the family. There are four types: couple without children, couple with one child or more, father with one child or more, and mother with one child or more. In order to be considered part of the family nucleus of their parents, children must not have a partner or have children. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, the type of nucleus is not disseminated in municipalities with fewer than 101 inhabitants.
Type of couple (de facto or legally married)
 It is considered that two persons comprise a de jure couple when, being a couple, they belong to the "married" category, according to the marital status variable. Although highly improbable, there will be cases in which they are married to other persons, not between themselves. These couples are in fact de facto couples, but are classified as legally married couples since they are indistinguishable from the rest. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, the type of couple is not disseminated in municipalities with fewer than 101 inhabitants. For the correct interpretation of this variable when the group under study are persons, we need to consider that the variables that are calculated in each nucleus take the same value for all its members, that is, persons who have a type of couple=de facto couple are everybody, whether with partner or not, parents or children, who belong to a family nucleus in which the couple from the nucleus is a de facto couple. If you wish to select, from among all of them those that comprise the couple, it is sufficient to add the following condition: Belonging to a family nucleus= Belongs to a family nucleus as a father, mother or partner.
Type of couple (same sex, different sex)
 As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system applied, the type of couple is not disseminated in municipalities with fewer than 101 inhabitants. For the correct interpretation of this variable when the group under study are persons, we need to consider that the variables calculated in each nucleus take the same value for all its members, that is, persons who have a type of couple=different sex couple are everybody, whether or not they have a partner, parents or children, who belong to a family nucleus in which the couple from the nucleus is a different sex couple. If you wish to select, from among all of them, those that comprise the couple, it is sufficient to add the following condition: Belonging to a family nucleus= Belongs to a family nucleus as a father, mother or partner.
Type of area
 The urban area is the group of singular population entities that have over 10,000 inhabitants; the intermediate area refers to those with 2,001 to 10,000 inhabitants, and the rural area to those with 2,000 inhabitants or less.

With values: Between 15 and 30 days, between 31 and 60 days, between 91 and 120 days, between 121 and 150 days, between 151 and 180 days, more than 180 days
Meaning of the "Not Applicable" category:

Dwellings that are rented (%)
 This is the percentage of principal family houses whose tenancy system is rental. This indicator may facilitate taking decisions locally to develop the rental or access the household.
Secondary dwellings (%)
 This is the percentage of second dwellings, over the total family dwellings in the area. A family dwelling is considered secondary when it is only used part of the year, seasonally, periodically or sporadically, and is not the regular residence of one or several persons. This indicator may be useful to study tourism and to design local services and housing policies, especially if combined with linked population data.
Empty dwellings (%)
 This is the percentage of empty dwellings, over the total family dwellings in the area. A family dwelling is considered empty or unoccupied when it is not the regular residence of anybody, nor is it used seasonally, periodically or sporadically by anybody. These are uninhabited (vacant) dwellings. In the last few years, concern has increased due to the difficult access to the first owned home, in addition to the interest in encouraging rental. In this context, having the proportion of uninhabited dwellings with a major territorial breakdown available, is especially interesting.
