INEbase / Statistics from the Courts for Minors / Methodology
Objective
The objective of the research is to study the socio-demographic and criminological characteristics of the minors convicted.
Compilation
Until 31 December 2006, the information was collected quarterly, via paper-based questionnaires that were completed by the Courts for Minors for each ruling passed.
Beginning with reference year 2007, based on the Partnership Agreement signed between the INE and the Ministry of Justice in July 2007, the primary source of the data to compile these statistics has been changed for the purpose of improving the coverage and quality of the same.
Use is made of the Register of Criminal Responsibility of Minors, from the condemnatory sentences registered in the same.
Content
Different aspects of the registers of the convicted minors contained in the Register are studied, in terms of both socio-demographics and criminology.
Among those aspects studied of a socio-demographic nature, are the sex, age and nationality of the offender.
Regarding the aspects of a criminological nature, it studies the type of crime committed (felony or misdemeanour), the measures imposed and the place of sentence.
Results are obtained regarding the minors convicted, as well as the offences and measures adopted.
Dissemination
Results are published annually, on national and Autonomous Community levels, on the INE website.
The results are published in the month of October of the year following the reference year.
