Summary The Industry and Services Wages Survey (ES) is a short-term statistical operation whose objective is to supply information on the level and tendency of the average earnings per hour, the average earnings per worker and month and the average number of hours worked. The reference period for the information requested in the questionnaire is a month. However, the reference for the results is the quarter.The sample is distributed among the months of the quarter and the estimates are calculated as the average of the whole quarter. Around 9.500 establishments are surveyed quarterly. The ES is a nationwide survey and refers to the whole population of wage earners working in centres with 5 or more workers, whatever their type of contract or workday. The Industry and Services Wages Survey provides information at national level and by autonomous communities. The sectorial cover includes 48 economic activity branches distributed among three sectors: Industry, Construction and Services. Likewise, in the fourth quarter of each year the survey supplies information on earnings broken down by sex. The surveyed earnings are made up of wages in cash and in kind, for time worked or work completed, as well as payments for non-worked periods such as vacations and holidays. Earnings include basic wages and fringe benefits (personal, jobs), etc. They are considered in gross terms, i.e. before deduction of tax and Social Security contributions charged to the workers.
