Women and Men in Spain is a publication produced in partnership with the Institute for Women. Its purpose is to provide, from a gender perspective, a synthesis of the most relevant indicators in the social and economic spheres, thereby enabling an increased knowledge of the differences in the situation of men and women in society.
Adaptation of statistics to the gender perspective makes it possible to analyse with greater accuracy the situation of men and women in the social, economic and political spheres, measure the differences in access to and use of resources, quantify the results attained in income, employment and educational levels, investigate the changes which have occurred in recent years in family structure and in the typology of households, as well as to ascertain specific characteristics of the current living conditions of women and men.
The indicators refer primarily to the national sphere, although information on the situation of Spain within Europe is also provided for some indicators. The variety of information provided by the statistics covered in this publication would not have been possible without the involvement of the different bodies and persons, regarding whose cooperation the INE wishes to express its gratitude.
