Welcome to the statistics website of the European Union (EU) Council Spanish Presidency
Spain will, for the fourth time, hold the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the EU during the first half of 2010. This challenge is undertaken at a time of particular relevance for the EU, such as the coming into force of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December and the renewal of the European institutional framework.
The aim of the system Trio Presidency, which commenced in 2007, is to reinforce continuity of the activities of the EU Council and give greater coherence to initiatives and proposals discussed within this framework. Spain, Belgium and Hungary, begin a new trio of Presidencies, which will conclude in June 2011. For the first time the Trio Presidency will share the same logo, which will reflect the colours of the flag of the country holding the Presidency.
During the Spanish Presidency, the Council Working Group on Statistics will focus on new European Commission proposals, taking into account priorities anticipated in the Joint activities programme of the Trio Presidency and the priorities of Spain. The following actions, among others, will be promoted:
- Adherence to the European Statistics Code of Practice and the improvement of the quality, reliability and transparency of statistical products and processes;
- Supporting of policies aimed at meeting the information needs in the framework of reducing workload and promoting the use of new communication technologies;
- Response to priority requests for information in the field of official statistics.
Following the example of previous Presidencies, we provide users with this website, to serve as a useful tool for monitoring all relevant issues and proposals of legal acts discussed at the Council during the Spanish Presidency.
