The provision of evolution perspectives of the future population constitutes a structurally relevant element in any analysis and planning exercise, and is therefore an objective that is traditionally attained by the INE.

Specifically, the periodical preparation of short-term projections of the population is motivated by the need of principal demographic data users to have available in the coming years a population evolution preview that is conveniently updated to the most recent demographic evolution, bearing in mind the strong impact that the unforeseen intensity and persistence observed in the migratory phenomenon has on the immediate evolution of the population.

The Short-Term Population Projections will provide, for each of the next years, an updated preview of the population residing in Spain, its Automous Communities and provinces, broken up into basic demographic characteristics, beginning with the Population Now-Cast at 1 January of the current year.
