Foto Lector de texto The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is a statistical indicator whose objective is to provide a common measurement of inflation which facilitates carrying out international comparisons and therefore examines compliance with fulfilment of the Maastricht Treaty demands for entrance into European Monetary Union.

The HICP of each country covers the categories which are over one per thousand of the national shopping basket. In each Member State it has been necessary to carry out particular adjustments in order to obtain the desired comparability by means of determined inclusions or exclusions of consumer items.
