In December 2007, the International Labour Organization (ILO) approved the new structure of the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO), called ISCO-08. Currently, the ILO is working on the explanatory notes of the new version. They are expected to be available at the end of 2008.
Simultaneously, the INE, together with the National Institute of Qualifications (INCUAL), the Public Employment Services (INEM), some ministries and autonomous statistics offices and several social agents, is reviewing the National Classification of Occupations. The objective is to adapt it to the changes made in the international classification, and also to adapt it to the evolution of the Spanish labour market. The goal is for the new NCO to be useful in measuring Spanish reality, observing the necessary international harmonisation.
