Revisions Peer Reviews

Peer Reviews are exercises assessing the situation or practices of a country in a given area. This refers to discussions between equals, generally using a Self-assessment Questionnaire, and not to audits by a higher body. The purpose of this exercise is to help the country subject to review in improving its formulation, which in this case is statistical, in adopting best practices and in complying with established principles and regulations.

In the framework of the implementation of the Code of Practice of European statistics, he main objectives of Peer Reviews are to improve transparency in this process and the responsibility of agents involved therein, to identify the difficulties and setbacks with regard to fulfilling the Code and providing incentives for the transfer of knowledge and experience by means of identification of best practice. Each Peer Review team creates a report for the country, assessed with a focus on the principles studied, which may also include a list of actions for improvement relating to the different principles of the Code.

In 2007 the first Peer Review visit was made to the INE in the framework of the implementation of theCode of Practice of European statisticsand it is anticipated that this assessment exercise will be repeated in 2014 (the exact date is still to be determined).
