Age (year-to-year)
 The age of the inhabitant is the time lapsed since the date of birth to the date of the census, expressed in years.
Age (large groups)
 Classification of ages year to year, Under 1 year old. to 100 years old or more. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system, the year to year age is not disseminated in areas with less than 20,001 inhabitants. Searches can be made regarding different age groups.
Age (five-year groups)
 Classification of ages, distributed in three large groups: under 16 years old, between 16 and 64 years old and 65 years old or older.
Maximum age of the oldest generation
 Classification of ages distributed in five year age groups, from 0-4, 5-9, ...., 85 years old or more.
Average age at marriage
 Maximum age of the oldest generation does not always coincide with the oldest person in the household. For example, in households with three brothers, and if the youngest is the only one who has children, his age will be taken as the maximum age of the oldest generation. Average age of the
dwelling
 The average age on marrying of women remaining married in their first marriage, has been obtained for every age group, dividing the sum of the ages (expressed in years) in which they contracted the marriage, by the total number of women in that age group.
Average age of the building
 The average age in the dwelling is calculated from the year of construction of the building; divided by the total number of dwellings affected.
Minimum age of the most recent generation
 Sum of all the class marks of the years of construction the buildings / Total number of housing. The class mark is the semi sum of the interval extremes and represents a central value of the same.
Building
 Minimum age of the most recent generation does not always coincide with the youngest person in the household. For example, a couple in which one of the partners has a child older than that of the other partner. Another similar case is a couple living with the father and grandmother of one of them and an exclusive child of the other. For further information, check the definition of Generation

State of the building
 Classification of the legal situation or marital status, which does not have to coincide with the de facto situation (persons in the process of getting separated or divorced). With the following values: single, married, widower, separated, divorced.
Average state of the building
 Classification of the states in which a building can be found. With values:
- In ruins: When the building presents any of the following circumstances: shored-up, an official declaration of ruin is being processed or an official declaration of ruin has been processed. Buildings in ruins have only been considered in the census if they are inhabited or accommodate an active venue.
- Poor: When the building presents any of the following circumstances: serious cracks or convex areas in any of the facades, collapse or lack of horizontality in roofs and floors or foundations that have given way noticeably (for example if the steps in a staircase present a suspicious slope).
- Deficient: When the building presents any of the following circumstances: gutters in a deficient state, damp areas in the lower part of the building or leaks in the roof.
- Good: When the building does not present any of the circumstances indicated for the ruined, poor and deficient state.
Meaning of the category 'Not applicable':
Accommodation and buildings not destined mainly for dwellings.
Age structure of the children of the nucleus
 Average of the values assigned to each of the state of the buildings: In ruins (0), Poor (2), Deficient (4), Good (10).
Structure of the household
 With values:
- All under 6 years old
- The youngest, under 6 years old, and the eldest, under 15 years old
- The youngest, under 6 years old, and the eldest, over 14 years old

Students, schoolchildren or preschool
 Classification of the different compositions of the households based on the age and sex of the members. A household is composed by the group of persons resident in the same family dwelling. Minors are persons under 16 years old and adults are persons aged 16 years old or over. The following categories apply:

- Of a female from 15 to 64 years old
- Of a male aged 65 years old or more
- Of a female aged 65 years old or more

Disposal of waste water from the building
 This characteristic will be obtained for all persons who, at the time of the census,are undertaking studies. Studies being undertaken are regarded as all those fulfilling the characteristics mentioned in the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCE). Garage in the building
 A Group of persons (two or more) who, residing in the same family dwelling, are linked through a blood or in-law relationship, independently of the degree.
Pipe fed gas (city gas, natural gas and propane)
 A building is considered to have a garage when there is structurally separate and independent venue located in the building which is used to park vehicles, regardless of whether or not it is used by the persons inhabiting the housing or venues located in the property. With values: It has one / it does not have one / not applicable.
When the attribute is the number of places, the values are:
None, 1, 2, 3 a 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 50, Over 50
Generation
 A dwelling has gas piped gas when, besides it being piped, its consumption is metered and its purpose is domestic use. It includes city gas, natural gas and propane and any other type that fulfils the aforementioned conditions. With values: It has one / it does not have one / not applicable.
Inhabitant
 To calculate the number of generations in the household information is sought on the father and mother of each person, the father and mother of the father, the father and mother of the mother, and so on. The number of generations is the maximum number of times a mother or father is found among all the values calculated for each of the persons in the household.
These specifications apply in order to comply with the criterion followed in the previous Censuses: if no person in the household states another as his/her mother or father, the number of generations is 1; if the household is composed by a couple with children, the number will be 2, and so on.
Household
 Individual who, at the time of the census, has her/his residence in Spain or is in its territory.
Households
 A household is considered the set of persons who normally live in the same dwelling. The differences between dwelling and family are:
a) The household may be unipersonal while the family has to consist of at least two members.
b) The members of a multipersonal household do not necessarily have to be related while family members do have to be related.
The number of households in the dwelling has values:
1 household, 2 households, 3 households, 4 households, 5 and more households
Permanently incapacitated from working
 Group of persons who, residing in the same dwelling, share common expenses arising from the use of the dwelling and/or feeding needs
Fittings of family dwellings
 Inactive population sector made up of those permanently incapacitated from working. The economically inactive population are all persons who do not fulfil the conditions required to include them in the category of occupied or unemployed persons.
Retired people (receiving a retirement or disability pension)
 With values:
-Running water when it is piped, coming from a capture and public distribution system or from an individual supply and there is at least one tap inside the dwelling.
- Hot water when there is a fixed and common installation that supplies hot water to all or part of the dwellings that it contains, regardless of whether this is central or individual.
- Heating, when it has a fitting or system, fixed or otherwise, allowing for increasing the temperature in the whole or part of it. With values: With group heating / with individual heating...
- Fuel used for heating. With values: Coal or derivatives/ Wood/ Petroleum or derivatives...
- Air conditioning, when it has a fitting or device that allows for reducing the temperature in the whole dwelling or in one or more of its rooms (this does not include fans).

- Piped gas, which is also metered and intended for domestic use.
- Telephone, when there are one or more devices allowing communication with the National Telephone Network.
- Toilet, when it has the necessary fittings for flushing away human waste.
- Fixed bathroom or shower installations with running water and located inside the dwelling.

Homemakers
 Inactive population sector made up of old age pensioners (including pre-retired persons) or those on invalidity pensions. The economically inactive population are all persons who do not fulfil the conditions required to include them in the category of occupied or unemployed persons.
Premises
 Inactive population who during the reference week have been carrying out or sharing the household tasks. The economically inactive population are all persons who do not fulfil the conditions required to include them in the category of occupied or unemployed persons.
Place of birth
 Premises are considered to be any structurally separated and independent building that is not exclusively dedicated to family dwellings and where activities which are economically dependent on a company or institution are carried out. The premises must be located in a building, occupying it totally or partially. The number of premises has the following values: 1, 2, 3. 4, 5 to 9, 10 to 19, 20 to 39, 40 or more, Not applicable
Place of origin
 For persons born in Spain, the province and municipality of birth is researched for. For persons born abroad, the country of birth.

Municipality of birth
 Moving that has entailed a change in municipality of residence. Three questions have been stated regarding residence on a previous date, all three addressing the municipality and province or country of residence. Nevertheless, intramunicipal migrations will also be studied, via changes of residence within the municipality.
Likewise, for the migrant population in the last 10 years, the country of origin has been addressed (province or municipality or country) of the last migration and the year in which residence in the municipality was established for the last time.

Nationality
 List of municipalities of the place of residence.
Level of studies
 The population is classified by country of subject or citizenship. When dealing with dual nationalities, if one of them is Spanish, the person is considered Spanish. With values: Spanish, Spanish and other, Foreign, Stateless.
Average level of studies
 The highest level of education that a person has attained in the education system of the country where he or she studied. For census purposes, the level of education will be obtained taking the fact that he or she has finished and passed all academic years at a specific level, and that, therefore, he or she is able to obtain the corresponding qualification or certificate. Data will be collected for all persons aged 10 years old or more on 1 March 1991. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system, the detailed level of studies is not disseminated in areas with less than 5,001 inhabitants. Aggregated level of studies may be consulted.
Family nucleus
 Sum of codes of education level / Total persons. The following correspondence applies to codes and levels of studies:

Number of active persons in the nucleus
 Intermediate hierarchical unit between the inhabitant and the family. There are four types:
- couple without children
- couple with one or more children
- father with one or more children
- mother with one or more children.
In order to be considered part of the family nucleus, children must not have a partner or have children.
In order to determine family nucleus, the two following criteria have been taken into account:
1. 1.The father (mother)-child relationship always has preference over the child-father (mother) relationship; in other words, if a single child without a partner is also the father of a single child who is also without a partner, both form a type c) nucleus and, therefore, the former, although being single and without a partner is not part of his parents' nucleus.
2. The relationship between a couple has preference over the child-father (mother) relationship.
Number of rooms
 Classification of active persons (employed and unemployed persons) within the nucleus.
With values: None, 1 active person, 2 active persons, 3 active persons, 4 active persons, 5 or more active persons
Number of rooms used for professional, commercial or similar purposes
 A room is understood to be a space located in a family dwelling that is enclosed by walls with a minimum useful area of at least 4 m2 and that rise at least to a minimum height of two metres from most of the useful area, not including bathrooms, lavatories and toilets, hallways, open balconies, covered areas and hall. With values: 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms, ..., 10 or more rooms, not applicable.
Number of children
 They are uses partly or totally for aid purposes. With values: None, 1, 2, 3, More than 3 bedrooms, not applicable.
Number of live births to the female of the nucleus
 Total number of children in the family nucleus, regardless of whether they belong to just the mother or just the father or to both. It is important to bear in mind that when the unit for analysis is the person, the nucleus variable will adopt the same value for each person. That is to say, in a nucleus formed by a couple and their three children, each of the persons (the father, the mother and the three children) will be given value 3 in this variable.
Number of floors
 This feature does not take into account the marital status of the woman.

Number of floors underground
 Classification of total number of floors that the building has. With values: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10-20, More than 20, dwellings in unlinked buildings.
Number of dwellings in building
 A floor is considered to be underground if it is below the height of the pavement or the ground. With values: 0,1,2,3 or more, not applicable
Average number of
garage spaces
 Buildings will be classified according to the number of family dwellings, with values: 1 dwelling/ 2 dwellings/ 3 dwellings/ 4 dwellings/ From 5 to 9 dwellings/ 10 to 19 dwellings/ 20 to 39 dwellings/ 40 or more dwellings. 'Not applicable' refers to accommodation.
Average number of live births to females
 Total no. of garage vacancies divided by the total number of dwellings in the building
Average no. of floors above ground
 This feature has been defined for each of the following four groups:
- women in general.
- employed women
- women remaining married in their first marriage.
- employed females still married in first marriage.
For each age group where the denominator is the total number of women in each group and the numerator, the total number of live births to women in said group are obtained as an arithmetic mean.

Employment
 Average number of floors the building in the territory studied has above ground, including the ground floor.
Employed persons
 Based on the National Classification of Occupations (NCO-79), at the same time abiding by, to a considerable degree, the revision of International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-1988)
Another situation (minors without education, independently wealthy...)
 Persons who during the reference week have had a job working for others or have worked for themselves. Where he or she has had several occupations, he or she will be considered under the main one, regarding as such the one on which most hours were spent that week.
Country of birth
 Inactive persons in a situation another than those mentioned previously (includes minors who are not attending school, independently wealthy...). The economically inactive population are all persons who do not fulfil the conditions required to include them in the category of occupied or unemployed persons.
Country of nationality
 List of countries referring to place of birth. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system, the country of birth is not disseminated in municipalities with less than 5,001 inhabitants.
Country of residence on 1-3-1981
 List of countries referring to the place where the subjects or citizens are from. As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system, the country of nationality is not disseminated in municipalities with less than 5,001 inhabitants.
Country of residence on 1-3-1990.
 List of countries in the world of place of residence on 1-3-1981.As one of the measures of the statistical secrecy protection system, the country of residence in 1981 is not disseminated in municipalities with less than 5,001 inhabitants.

Unemployed looking for first job
 All persons who were simultaneously, during the reference week:
- without work, in other words, who have not had a job working for others or for themselves.
- In search of work. In other words, who have taken specific measures to search for work for others or who have tried to start working for themselves.
- available for work in a job working for others or for themselves.
Unemployed persons are broken down into those seeking the first employment and those who have worked previously.
Unemployed persons who have worked before
 These are those persons who have never worked, and who, during the reference week, have been simultaneously:
- without work, in other words, who have not had a job working for others or for themselves.
- In search of work. In other words, who have taken specific measures to search for work for others or who have tried to start working for themselves.
- available for work in a job working for others or for themselves.
Couples and other family nuclei
 These are those persons who have never worked, and who, during the reference week, have been simultaneously:
- without work, in other words, who have not had a job working for others or for themselves.
- In search of work. In other words, who have taken specific measures to search for work for others or who have tried to start working for themselves.
- available for work in a job working for themselves or for others.
Receiving a pension other than a retirement or disability pension
 Most restricted conception of the family, that is limited to the closest degrees of kinship
Construction period
 Inactive population sector made up of pensioners due to reason other than old age pensioners or invalidity (widowhood or orphanhood)The economically inactive population are all persons who do not fulfil the conditions required to include them in the category of employed or unemployed persons.
Main person
 It corresponds to the period in which construction was completed and buildings under construction and there was already a roof. With values: Under construction and already have a roof / finished before 1900 / finished between 1900 and 1920 /./ finished after 1980 / Not applicable.
Population
 The person listed in the first place will be, by definition, "the main person", the only exception being that the main person must not be a non-resident were there are residents.
Economically Active Population
 Group of individuals who lived in Spain when the census was performed. A resident is an individual who at the time of the census habitually resides in the dwelling, in the building or in the territory studied. The group of residents in a territory is equivalent to the concept of de jure population.
Population counted separately
 Group of persons aged 16 years old and more who, in a given reference period, supply labour for the production of economic goods and services (employed persons) or who are available and carry out actions to incorporate themselves into said production (unemployed persons).
De jure population resident in family dwellings
 Males enrolled in Military Service (or, where applicable, those who opt for alternative compulsory civilian service) are accounted for as a separate population, that is, they were not included among the active or inactive population, regardless of having worked or not during the reference week.
Economically Inactive Population
 Total no. of residents (present and absent), resident in family dwellings
Porter's office in the building
 It includes all persons regardless of their age, not classified as employed or unemployed persons during the reference week. It covers the following categories: retired persons / Persons who receive a pension other than a retirement one / permanently incapacitated from working / students / homekeeping (unpaid) / another situation (unschooled minors, independently wealthy...), who dependent on charity-type benefit or aid, etc.

Province of birth
 The occupation, profession and trade makes reference to the type of work carried out during the week of reference by an occupied person. In case the person is involved in several occupations, the main occupation is consigned. For unemployed persons who have worked previously, and for retirees, information is collected referring to the last occupation undertaken. With values: Professional, engineers and the like/ Administrative personnel ... The pre-encoding used guarantees obtaining data at the level of large groups of the National Classification of Occupations (NCO- 79), at the same time abiding by the last International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-88-COM).

Central air conditioning in the building
 A dwelling has air conditioning when it has a fitting or device that allows for reducing the temperature in the whole dwelling or in one or more of its rooms (this does not include fans).With values: It has air-conditioning/ it does not have air-conditioning/ 'Not applicable' refers to Accommodation.
Tenancy regime
 A building is considered to have central hot water when there is a fixed and common installation that makes it possible to reduce the temperature to all or the main parts of the dwelling it contains.With values:

Region of birth
 Concept by which occupation of the dwelling is enjoyed.With values:
- Property free and clear when this is by one of the persons occupying it.
- Property after purchase with pending payments when there is written or verbal commitment to carry out delayed payments to acquire the dwelling (for example, mortgage payments or any other payment linked to the acquisition of the dwelling).
- Inherited or donated property when the owner has died, emigrated, etc., although any sort of encumbrance may be applicable to the dwelling.
- Provided freely or semi-freely by the employer, body or company where one of the household members works, when it is by virtue of an employment contract or as payment in kind.
- Provided freely or semi-freely by other persons, households or institutions when there does not exist any payment for use of the dwelling or else payment is fixed, voluntarily by the dwellings owner, below the market rental price.
- Rented, without its occupants' furniture, but pays for its use an annual or monthly amount in cash or in kind, it should be stated in the contract or declared in some other way if it does not have furniture.
- When rented unfurnished, it should be stated in the contract or declared in some other way if it does not have furniture.
- Another form. A dwelling is held in another form of tenancy if its tenancy regime does not adhere to any of the aforementioned modes.
