Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

April 2026. Provisional data

Main results

  • Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation fell by 1.1% in April compared to the same month in 2025.
  • Overnight stays in apartments increased by 0.4%, as compared to the same month in 2025. On the other hand, stays in rural tourism declined by 1.3%, camp-sites by 2.2% and hostels by 5.5%.
  • The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 6.3% in April, compared to the same month of 2025, the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) by 4.3%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 0.8%.

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 10.5 million in April, with a 1.1% decrease compared to the same month last year.

Overnight stays by residents decreased by 1.4% and those by non-residents by 0.7%. The average stay was 3.5 overnight stays per traveller.

Since Easter 2026 was celebrated from March to April and in 2025 only in April, it is appropriate to analyse the two months together. The report shows an increase in overnight stays of 1.7% compared with the same two-month period in 2025 (resident overnight stays increased by 5.5%, while non-resident overnight stays decreased by 0.7%).

Apartments

Overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 0.4% in April. Overnight stays by residents increased by 5.2%, while those by non-residents fell by 1.6%.

The average stay fell by 6.8%, to 4.2 overnight stays per traveller.

In April, 36.2% of the places available were occupied, 1.1% more than in the same month in 2025. The occupancy rate by bed-places at the weekend was 42.0%, 3.8% more.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 70.2% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 33.6% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 1.9 million overnight stays and a decrease of 11.9% compared to April 2025. Comunidad de Madrid had the highest occupancy rate, with 74.1% of the flats on offer.

By tourist areas, Gran Canaria was the preferred destination, with more than 646,000 thousand overnight stays. Costa Barcelona had the highest occupancy rate, with 82.5%. The tourist locations with the greatest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán and Arona.

Camp-sites

Overnight stays in camp-sites decreased by 2.2% in April in the annual rate. Those of residents decreased by 5.1%, while those of non-residents increased by 2.0%.

38.7% of the available sites were occupied, 3.7% less. The weekend occupancy rate reached 42.1%, an increase of 0.7%. Non-residents accounted for 41.6% of overnight stays. Germany was the main market of origin, with 26.6% of the total.

Cataluña was the preferred destination in campsites, with more than 1.4 million overnight stays, and a decrease of 7.1% in annual rate. La Rioja achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 60.2% of the sites offered.

By tourist area, the Costa Brava was the preferred destination, with more than 541,000 overnight stays. The Costa Blanca had the highest occupancy rate, with 71.7%. The tourist sites with the highest number of overnight stays were Benidorm, Mont-Roig del Camp and Cambrils.

Rural tourism accommodation

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation decreased by 1.3% in April compared with the same month in 2025. Spanish resident overnight stays fell by 1.8%, and those of non-residents by 0.1%.

20.6% of the bedplaces were occupied, 2.7% less than in April 2025. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 37.5%, with an annual increase of 3.1%.

Castilla y León was the preferred destination, with more than 172,000 thousand overnight stays, 7.5% more than in April 2025. Illes Balears achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 48.7%.

By tourist areas, Isla de Mallorca was the preferred destination, with more than 112 thousand overnight stays, and also the highest occupancy, with a 49.3% of the places offered.

Hostels

Overnight stays in hostels decreased by 5.5% in April. Spanish resident overnight stays fell by 6.7%, and those of non-residents by 4.3%.

31.5% of the bedplaces were occupied, 7.5% less than in April 2025. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 39.2%, with a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%.

Comunidad de Madrid was the preferred destination, with more than 125,000 overnight stays, and also the highest occupancy, with 67.5% of the places offered.

Price indices

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 6.3% in April, compared to the same month of 2025, the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) by 4.3%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 0.8%.
