  • Notes
    • 1) In each of the groups, only those diagnoses that are considered major will be incorporated.

      2) To interpret the information on hospital discharges in 2020 it should be noted that the World Health Organisation (WHO) established an emergency code in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) in February 2020 for coding COVID-19 infections. This code was implemented in ICD-10-CM (classification used in the codification of diagnoses in hospitalised patients), on an exceptional basis, from 1 April 2020 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the National Center for Health Statistics (CDC/NCHS). In Spain, given the current health crisis situation, it was decided not to implement the new code until there was a decrease in care pressure and information systems could take on the change. Finally, the new code U07.1 for COVID-19 infection was implemented by hospitals as of July 2020.
