    The 'Emotional symptoms' category comprises: He/she frequently complains of headaches, stomachaches or nausea He/she has many worries, and often seems restless or worried He/she often feels unhappy, downhearted, weepy He/she is nervous or dependent in new situations, and easily loses his/her self-confidence He/she has many fears, and is easily frightened.
    
    The 'Behavioural problems' category comprises: He/she frequently has temper tantrums or a bad tamper In general, he/she is obedient and usually does what adults ask He/she fights frequently with other children or picks on them He/she often lies or deceives He/she steals things from home, at school or in other places.
    
    The 'Hyperactivity' category comprises: he/she is restless, hyperactive, unable to remain still for long He/she is constantly moving and is naughty He/she is easily distracted, his/her concentration tends to disperse He/she thinks things over before doing them He/she finishes what he/she began, and has good concentration.
    
    The 'Problems with peers' category comprises: He/she is rather solitary and tends to play alone He/she has at least one good friend in general, other children like him/her The other children pick on or make fun of him/her He/she gets on better with adults than with other children.
    
    The 'Prosocial' category comprises: He/she bears in mind the feelings of other people, He/she frequently shares sweets, toys, pencils... with other children He/she offers to help when someone is hurt, upset or ill he/she treats smaller children well He/she ofter offers to help (parents, teachers, other children).
    
    The values for each category of the mental health variable in children range between 0 and 10 points, from better to worse mental health for the 'Emotional symptoms', 'Behavioural problems', 'Hyperactivity' and 'Problems with peers' scales, and from worse to better for the 'Prosocial behaviour' scale.
