Summer tourism. 40 million persons choose Spanish tourist establishments as the place to spend their holidays

Summer tourism accounted for almost half of the more than 80 million travellers registered in tourist accommodation throughout the year 2004. Three quarters of the visitors stay at hotels, the most common accommodation. In the summer months, the coastal areas register maximum occupancy rates. Tourism is one of the most important sectors of the Spanish economy.
