Towards a more modern and dynamic indicator

The new Price Index System, Base 2001, entering into force in January 2002, has been implemented in two phases over a period of two years. A more dynamic indicator has been achieved, since it will be possible to updated the weightings more frequently, and it  will adapt better to the evolution of the market. Moreover, it will be possible to include new products in the shopping basket whenever their consumption begins to be significant. The new system will be technically more modern, as it permits the immediate inclusion of improvements in the methodology, provided by the different academic forums and national and international bodies.
