Campoflorido Census 1712. Book I. Manuscripts

General Neighbourhood of Spain

Cover of the publication

Census performed by mandate of the Royal Advisor to the Treasury for a fairer distribution of the impositions caused by the War of the Succession. Five years later, the Marquis of Campoflorido ordered its concentration in the State Secretariat of the Treasury. Hence the name and the erroneous dating that presents the census as from 1717.

This was the first census to be applied to all of Spain and, together with other documents on the population of the time, made up a compilation known as "General Neighbourhood of Spain, 1717", reproduced in the present publication.
