1.7.1. Total nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments

Description of indicator

Tourist accommodation establishments (see Regulation (EU) No 692/2011),means a local kind-of-activity unit (as defined in the Annex to Council Regulation (EEC) No 696/93 of 15 March 1993 on the statistical units) providing as a paid service - although the price might be partially or fully subsidised - short-term or short-stay accommodation services as described in groups 55.1 (hotels and similar accommodation), 55.2 (holiday and other short-stay accommodation) and 55.3 (camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks) of NACE Rev. 2.. Until 2014, in the city statistics context tourist accommodation establishments only refer to the categories 55.1 and 55.2. Since 2015 category 55.3 has been included.

A night spent (or overnight stay) is each night a guest / tourist (resident or non-resident) actually spends (sleeps or stays) in a tourist accommodation establishment or non-rented accommodation. It could be either a business or recreational overnight stay. Overnight stays are calculated by country of residence of the guest and by month. 

The sources for this indicator are the tourism surveys from INE. For many cities, information is not provided because it is protected by statistical confidentiality.
