The gradual process of the exhaustion of resources, climate change, urban growth, etc., demands a change in the objectives of growth. Thus arose the idea of sustainable development, according to the Council of Europe (Declaration of the Principles of Sustainable Development, June 2005), which must favour a break between growth and environmental degradation.
