In February 2005 the Statistical Programme Committee (SPC) adopted the Code of Practice for European Statistics and undertook to abide by the fifteen principles set out therein, as well as to check their application at intervals, by using the corresponding good practice indicators. This code has been adopted by the INE as its own, thus undertaking to comply with it when establishing general principles regulating statistical production for state purposes.

On 28 September 2011, the European Statistical System Committee  adopted the text of the revised Code that places more emphasis on the independence, integrity and responsibility of the statistical offices as well as in the use of administrative sources for the production of statistics.
