The Rail Transport Statistics objective is to provide information on the number of goods and passengers transported as well as on the accidents that have occurred. The statistics began to be collected in 2004 in order to have the necessary information so that the Commission can monitor and develop the common transport policy, as well as the transport chapter of regional and trans-European network policies.
