Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 22.3 million in July, with an increase of 3.8% compared to the same month last year.

Overnight stays of residents decreased by 1.8%, while those of non-residents increased by 9.5%. The average stay was 4.6 overnight stays per traveller.

Overnight stays in tourist flats increased by 7.7% in July. Those of residents decreased by 0.4%, while those of non-residents increased by 12.7%.

The average stay decreased by 4.3%, to 5.1 overnight stays per traveller.

In July, 51.5% of the places offered were occupied, 4.2% more than in the same month of 2024. The occupancy rate by bed-places at the weekend was 54.9%, 3.6% more.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 64.5% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 28.3% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.5 million overnight stays and an increase of 16.8% compared to July 2024. Illes Balears had the highest occupancy, with 85.9% of the apartments offered.

By tourist areas, the Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 1.4 million overnight stays. Isla de Mallorca had the highest occupancy rate, with 88.1%. The tourist locations with the greatest number of overnight stays were Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Benidorm.

Overnight stays in campsites increased by 0.4% in July compared to the same month in 2024. Those by residents decreased by 4.4%, while those of non-residents rose by 7.3%.

In July, 53.2% of the sites on offer were occupied, a decrease of 1.3% in terms of the annual rate. The weekend occupancy rate reached 55.8%, a fall of 1.9%. Non-resident travellers accounted for 43.4% of overnight stays. The Netherlands was the main market of origin, with 36.2% of the total.

Catalonia was the preferred destination in campsites, with more than 4.6 million overnight stays, rising 2.3% in the annual rate. La Rioja achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 78.5% of the sites offered.

By tourist area, the Costa Brava was the preferred destination, with more than 2.3 million overnight stays. The Costa Blanca had the highest occupancy rate, with 73.8%. The tourist sites with the most overnight stays were Torroella de Montgrí, Calonge, and Mont-Roig del Camp.

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation increased 5.6% in July compared with the same month in 2024. Resident overnight stays grew by 5.5%, and those of non-residents by 5.8%.

32.5% of the bedplaces were occupied, 5.5% more than in July 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 45.9%, an annual increase of 5.0%.

Illes Balears was the preferred destination, with more than 250 thousand overnight stays, 4.5% more than in July 2024. The region also achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 65.7%.

By tourist areas, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with over 185 thousand overnight stays. The island of Menorca reached the highest occupancy rate, with 71.7% of the bed-places offered.

Overnight stays in hostels recorded an annual decrease of 3.5% in July. Spanish resident overnight stays fell by 1.1%, and those of non-residents by 7.3%.

44.4% of the bedplaces were occupied, 1.7% more than in July 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 49.2%, with an annual increase of 1.8%.

Galicia was the preferred destination, with more than 173,000 overnight stays. Illes Balears reached the highest occupancy rate, with 82.2% of the bed-places offered.

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 1.2% in July, compared to the same month of 2024, the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) by 4.2%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 9.6%.
