Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

August 2025. Provisional data

Main results

  • Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation rose by 0.6% in August compared to the same month in 2024.
  • Overnight stays in apartments increased by 1.5% and in campsites by 0.6% compared to the same month in 2024. On the other hand, stays in rural tourism declined by 1.9% and in hostels by 3.1%.

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 26.1 million in August, with an increase of 0.6% compared with the same month last year.

Overnight stays of residents rose by 1.4%, while those of non-residents fell by 0.4%. The average stay was 4.8 overnight stays per traveller.

Apartments

Overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 1.5% in August. Resident overnight stays grew by 2.6%, and those of non-residents by 0.8%.

The average stay decreased by 3.4% to 5.5 overnight stays per traveller.

In August, 57.6% of the places offered were occupied, 2.0% more than in the same month in 2024. The occupancy rate by bed-places at the weekend was 57.6%, 2.4% more.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 58.1% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 29.4% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.7 million overnight stays and an increase of 14.0% compared with August 2024. Illes Balears had the highest occupancy, with 84.9% of the apartments offered.

By tourist areas, the Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 1.3 million overnight stays. The island of Lanzarote had the highest occupancy rate, with 87.1%. The tourist spots with the highest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Benidorm and Mogán.

Campsites

Las pernoctaciones en campings aumentaron un 0,6% en agosto respecto al mismo mes de 2024. Las de residentes aumentaron un 1,9%, mientras que las de no residentes disminuyeron un 1,9%.

Durante agosto se ocuparon el 61,3% de las parcelas ofertadas, un 0,2% más en tasa anual. El grado de ocupación en fin de semana fue del 60,2%, con un descenso del 1,8%. El 34,7% de las pernoctaciones las realizaron viajeros no residentes. Francia fue el principal mercado emisor, con el 33,8% del total.

Cataluña fue el destino preferido en campings, con más de 5,4 millones de pernoctaciones, y un aumento del 0,5% en tasa anual. La Rioja alcanzó el mayor grado de ocupación, con el 75,6% de las parcelas ofertadas.

Por zonas turísticas, la Costa Brava fue el destino preferido, con más de 2,6 millones de pernoctaciones. La Costa Blanca presentó el mayor grado de ocupación, con un 80,2%. Los puntos turísticos con más pernoctaciones fueron Torroella de Montgrí, Calonge y Mont- Roig del Camp.

Rural tourism accommodation

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation decreased by 1.9% in August compared with the same month in 2024. Those of residents decreased by 3.1%, while those of non-residents increased by 1.3%.

42.2% of bed-places were occupied, 1.2% less than in August 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 45.2%, with a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%.

Castilla y León was the preferred destination, with more than 309 thousand overnight stays, 9.4% fewer than in August 2024. Illes Balears achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 70.6%.

By tourist areas, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with over 197 thousand overnight stays. The island of Menorca reached the highest occupancy rate, with 80.1% of the bed-places offered.

Hostels

Overnight stays in hostels recorded an annual decrease of 3.1% in August. Spanish resident overnight stays fell by 0.1%, and those of non-residents by 7.0%.

42.8% of the bed places were occupied, 2.8% more than in August 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 44.8%, with an annual increase of 9.3%.

Galicia was the preferred destination, with more than 206,000 overnight stays. País Vasco reached the highest occupancy rate, with 59.2% of the places offered.

Price indices

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 3.0% in August, compared to the same month of 2024, the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) by 3.3%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 8.5%.
