Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 14.4 million in September, with an increase of 4.1% compared with the same month last year.

Overnight stays both by residents and non-residents rose by 4.1%. The average stay was 4.1 overnight stays per traveller.

Overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 5.8% in September. Stays by residents rose by 1.9% and non-residents by 7.6%.

The average stay decreased by 2.1% to 4.9 overnight stays per traveller.

In September, 41.4% of the bed-places offered were occupied, 4.7% more than in the same month in 2024. The occupancy rate by bed-places at the weekend was 45.7%, 6.9% more.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 68.9% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 34.3% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.2 million overnight stays and an increase of 11.7% compared to September 2024. Illes Balears had the highest occupancy, with 81.3% of the apartments offered.

By tourist areas, Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 0.9 million overnight stays. Lanzarote had the highest occupancy rate, with 87.8%. The tourist locations with the greatest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán and Arona.

Overnight stays in campsites increased by 4.9% in September compared with the same month in 2024. Overnight stays by residents increased by 11.0%, while those by non-residents fell by 1.4%.

In September, 44.1% of the sites on offer were occupied, an increase of 0.1% in terms of the annual rate. The weekend occupancy rate reached 46.5%, an increase of 2.6%. Non-resident travellers accounted for 46.2% of overnight stays. Germany was the main market of origin, with 27.4% of the total.

Catalonia was the preferred destination in campsites, with more than 2.5 million overnight stays, rising 11.8% in the annual rate. La Rioja achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 65.0% of the sites offered.

By tourist area, the Costa Brava was the preferred destination, with more than 1.1 million overnight stays. The Costa Blanca had the highest occupancy rate, with 72.6%. The tourist locations with the most overnight stays were Benidorm, Mont-Roig Del Camp and Sant Pere Pescador.

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation decreased by 0.5% in September compared with the same month in 2024. Those of residents decreased by 0.3%, while those of non-residents increased by 1.8%.

23.4% of the bedplaces are occupied, 4.4% more than in September 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 38.4%, with an annual increase of 3.3%.

Illes Balears was the preferred destination, with more than 244 thousand overnight stays, 3.2% more than in September 2024. The region also achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 66.4%.

By tourist areas, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with over 181 thousand overnight stays. The island of Menorca reached the highest occupancy rate, with 75.6% of the bed-places offered.

Overnight stays in hostels recorded an annual decrease of 11.2% in September. Spanish resident overnight stays fell by 22.1%, and those of non-residents by 3.0%.

31.8% of the bed-places were occupied, 4.0% less than in September 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 39.0%, with a year-on-year decrease of 5.3%.

Galicia was the preferred destination, with more than 145 thousand overnight stays. Comunidad de Madrid achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 57.9% of the bed-places offered.

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 1.9% in September, compared with the same month in 2024, while the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) rose by 3.2%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 10.9%.
