Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

Main results

  • Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation rose by 4.3% in October compared with the same month in 2024.
  • Overnight stays in apartments increased by 7.0%, those in rural tourism by 2.8%, and camp-sites by 2.7% compared to the same month in 2024. On the contrary, hostel stays fell by 10.1%.

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, camp-sites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 10.4 million in October with a 4.3 compared with the same month last year.

Overnight stays by residents increased by 7.5%, and those of non-residents by 2.9%. The average stay was 3.9 overnight stays per traveller.

Apartments

Overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 7.0% in October. Stays by residents rose by 9.0% and non-residents by 6.5%.

The average stay decreased by 2.4% to 4.9 overnight stays per traveller.

In October, 38.6% of the bed-places offered were occupied, 5.6% more than in the same month in 2024. The occupancy rate by bed-places at the weekend was 42.4%, 4.5% more.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 78.9% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 31.8% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.4 million overnight stays and an increase of 10.7% compared with October 2024. Comunidad de Madrid had the highest occupancy, with 85.0% of the apartments available.

By tourist areas, Gran Canaria was the preferred destination, with more than 858 thousand overnight stays. Costa Barcelona had the highest occupancy rate, with 91.6%. The tourist locations with the greatest number of overnight stays were Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Arona.

Campsites

Overnight stays in campsites increased by 2.7% in October compared with the same month in 2024. Overnight stays by residents increased by 15.6%, while those by non-residents fell by 5.1%.

In October, 41.3% of the sites on offer were occupied, a decrease of 1.6% in terms of the annual rate. The weekend occupancy rate reached 43.3%, a fall of 2.2%. Non-resident travellers accounted for 57.7% of overnight stays. Germany was the main market of origin, with 32.6% of the total.

Cataluña was the preferred destination for campsites, with more than 962 million overnight stays, and an increase of 10.8% in the annual rate. La Rioja achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 59.8% of the sites offered.

By tourist area,  Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 420 thousand overnight stays, and also had the highest occupancy rate, 78.7%. The tourist sites with the highest number of overnight stays were Benidorm, Mont-Roig Del Camp and Tarragona.

Rural tourism accommodation

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation rose by 2.8% in October compared with the same month in 2024. Resident overnight stays grew by 3.5%, and those of non-residents by 1.8%.

19.5% of the bedplaces are occupied, 7.1% more than in October 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 34.7%, with a year-on-year decrease of 2.0%.

Illes Balears was the preferred destination, with more than 171 thousand overnight stays, 2.8% less than in October 2024. The region also achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 51.3%.

By tourist areas,  Isla de Mallorca was the preferred destination, with more than 136 thousand overnight stays and the highest occupancy, with a 51.4% of the places offered.

Hostels

Overnight stays in hostels decreased by 10.1% in October. Spanish resident overnight stays fell by 18.0%, and those of non-residents by 4.1%.

27.4% of bed-places were occupied, 8.9% fewer than in October 2024. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 34.1%, with a year-on-year decrease of 9.4%.

Comunidad de Madrid was the preferred destination, with more than 117 thousand overnight stays and the highest occupancy, with 63.6% of the places offered.

Price indices

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 2.0% in October, compared with the same month in 2024, while the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) rose by 2.9%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 6.1%.
