Definition

Total expenditure is expenditure by all households resident in Spain, made both within national territory and in the est of the world.

Average expenditure per household is calculaled by dividing the total expenditure estimate by the estimated number of households resident in Spain.

Similarly, average expenditure per person is calculaled by dividing the total expenditure estimate by the estimated number of households resident in Spain.

As far as average expenditure per consumption unit is concerned, it is calculated as the quotiente between total expenditure and the total number of consumption units. The number of household consumption units, according to the modified OECD scale, is calculated by means of the sum of the household members, weighted according to the following coefficients:
1 for the main breadwinner (the household's first adult).
0.5 for the following adults (over 13 years old).
0.3 for the children (13 years old and under).
