Electoral Census Street Map
The road/street map contains all the information that fully identifies the road/street and road/street sections that belong to each census section; as additional information it includes the postal district of each section in question. This is a set of files (in ASCII format compressed in ZIP format) that include, for the reference date:
- Population Unit File (UP).
- Road/street file (VIAS).
- Non-road/street name file (PSEU).
- Road/street section file (TRAM).
- Sections file (SECC).
The files, which are separate for each province, are those used by the INE for the purposes of the Electoral Census.
Reference date: the files corresponding to the January publication contain the street directory as of the reference date 31 December of the previous year, while the files corresponding to the July publication contain the street directory as of 30 June of that year.
Record design: the record design of the files prior to the January 2025 publication is based on the Order of 11 July 1997 on electronic communications between public administration agencies regarding information from municipal registers and can be downloaded in the following Excel file.As of the July 2025 publication, the record design is the one agreed by the Registration Council at its meeting of 11 November 2009, which can be downloaded in the following Excel file.
Additionally, the road/street types file contains the list of road/street types existing on the publication reference date.
Provincial files:
Note: In 2021, a change was made to the street management system to improve the information obtained. Among other things, a change was made to the road/street sections file.
- Before 2021: when a road or street belonged to a single section, the sections considered were from 0001 to 9999, for odd numbers, and from 0002 to 9998, for even numbers, regardless of whether there were jumps in the numbering. In addition to 0000S, for unnumbered ones.
- Since 2021: the sections of the roads/streets in a section will be obtained by aggregating the postal approximations (abbreviated as "apps"). This will then be the basic attribute that defines the territory and sections will be formed using the numbering range, even, odd or 0000S (no number) of the "apps" that appear in that section. The postal approximation is defined as the postal address up to the door.
Street map Changes
Each publication is accompanied by the street map changes that have occurred since the previous publication. The calculation of these changes is included in the file: method and rules for reporting changes.
Changes file: between the July 2025 street map and the January 2026 street map.
