Monthly births estimates are intended to provide rapid estimates of the total number of births occurring each month from the entries recorded in the computerised civil registries, as well as their comparison with historical data already published, which allows the data to be interpreted in a necessary historical perspective, given the variability and gradual decline in birth figures over recent years. Thus, two types of data will coexist in the project:

• Final data (births from 2016 to the last published in the birth statistics).
• Estimated data (remaining data up to the last published month).

Updated birth estimates shall be published every month m and shall cover up to the full month m-2.
