Overnight stays in hotel establishments increased by 2.5% in May compared to the same month in 2025, exceeding 36.3 million.
Those of travellers resident in Spain decreased by 0.2%, while those of non-residents increased by 3.7%.

During the first five months of 2026, overnight stays increased by 2.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. Those of travellers resident in Spain increased by 1.2% and those of non-residents by 3.4%.
Andalucía, Cataluña and Comunitat Valenciana were the main destinations for travellers resident in Spain in May, with 20.4%, 14.9% and 12.2% of the total number of overnight stays, respectively.
The main destinations for non-residents were Illes Balears, Canarias, and Cataluña, with 30.6%, 18.0% and 17.9% of the total, respectively.
By tourist areas, Isla de Mallorca recorded the highest number of overnight stays, with more than 6.5 million. On the other hand, the tourist destinations with the most overnight stays were Barcelona, Madrid and Calvià.
Travellers from the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 27.9% and 17.4%, respectively, of total non-resident overnight stays in May.
Overnight stays by travellers from France, the United States and the Netherlands (the next largest source markets) accounted for 8.6%, 5.2% and 4.7% of the total, respectively.
In May, 61.5% of the places offered were filled, 2.1% fewer than in May 2025.
The weekend occupancy rate by bed places rose by 1.7% to 67.9%.
Illes Balears registered the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces in May (73.5%).
The tourist destination with the highest level of occupancy by places and at weekends, was the Palma-Calvià, with 76.1% and 79.4%, respectively.
The tourist destination with the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces was Sóller (83.4%). Zarautz achieved the highest weekend occupancy rate (89.4%).
The Hotel Price Index rose by 5.0% in May compared to the same month in 2025.

By communities and autonomous cities, the greatest increase was registered in Illes Balears (8.9%) and the sharpest decrease was in the autonomous city of Melilla (-1.2%).
By category, the highest price increase occurred in the five-star gold establishments (6.3%).
The average hotel turnover per occupied room (ADR) was 123.7 euros in May, an increase of 4.2% compared to the same month in 2025.
The average daily revenue per available room (RevPAR), which is determined by the occupancy of these establishments, reached 88,0 euros, an increase of 5.8%.
By category, the ADR was 307.1 euros for five-star hotels, 125.7 euros for four-star hotels and 94.8 euros for three-star hotels. RevPAR for these same categories was 216.2, 97.1 and 68.3 euros, respectively.
The tourist spot with the highest ADR and RevPAR was Marbella, with 267.2 and 207.1 euros, respectively.

The objective of the Hotels Occupancy Survey (EOH) is to ascertain a series of variables that make it possible to describe the fundamental characteristics of the hotel sector, both from the point of view of supply and demand.
The Hotel Price Index (IPH) is a statistical measure of the monthly evolution of prices applied to clients that hotel entrepreneurs apply to their customers.
The objective of the Indicators of Profitability of the Hotel Sector (IRSH) is to facilitate decision-making in the hotel sector. These are the Average Daily Rate (ADR), which collects the average daily income per occupied room, and the Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR), which collects the average daily revenue per available room.
