Flash estimate of the Harmonised Consumer Price Index (HCPI)

September 2026

Main results

  • The annual change in the flash estimate of the CPI stands at 4.9% in September, six tenths higher than the one registered in August.
  • The annual rate of the core inflation flash estimate increases two tenths, to 3.1%.
  • The annual variation of the HICP flash estimate is 5.0%.

According to the flash estimate issued by the INE, the annual inflation of the CPI in September 2026 is 4.9%.

This indicator provides an advance in the CPI which, if confirmed, would mean that the annual rate increases six tenths, as this variation was 4.3% in August.

This trend is influenced by the prices of fuel and lubricants for private vehicles, which are rising, whereas in September 2025 they fell; and also by package holidays, whose prices are falling less than in the same month last year.

The estimated annual variation rate of core inflation (general index without unprocessed food or energy products) increases two tenths, to 3.1%.
