Towards a more modern and dynamic indicator

As of 22 February 2002, the INE has carried out the definitive implementation of the new system of Consumer Price Indices Base 2001.

The new system has been put into effect in two phases, over two years. In the first phase (up to 01-2001) some improvements were introduced which were completed in 01-2002. A more dynamic indicator has been achieved as the weightings may be updated more frequently and will adapt better to the development of the market. Moreover, new products will be able to be included in the shopping basket when consumption starts to be significant.
