The Birth Statistics, which are part of the Vital Statistics, enable carrying out studies regarding the given names of newborns from the information included in the statistical birth bulletin. This section includes tables with the 100 most common given names recorded in the Civil Register for the national total, and the 10 most frequent given names for the Autonomous Communities.
The statistical use of the Register offers results that enable conducting studies regarding the given names and surnames of those persons resident in Spain. The results may be queried in the form of Excel tables, or by using the software applications designed for this purpose.
In the section on given names of persons resident in Spain, the What is the frequency of a given name? application allows choosing a given name and seeing how many persons have that given name and what its average age is in each province, decade of birth or country of nationality. It is also possible to view, in Excel format, tables with the most frequent given names (100 for the entire national territory, 50 for each province of residence and 10 for each nationality and sex), tables with the frequency of given names according to the decade of birth and the list of names with a frequency greater than or equal to 20, and their average ages.
In the section on surnames of persons resident in Spain, the What is the frequency of a surname? application allows choosing a surname and seeing how many persons have that surname (whether it is the first, second or both surnames), according to province of residence or birth and according to nationality. In addition, tables are presented in Excel format with the most frequent surnames (100 for the entire national territory, 50 for each province of residence and 10 for each nationality); it is also possible to view a list, in Excel format, with all the surnames of the persons resident in Spain that have a frequency higher than 20 for the first surname.
