Metadata Sub-indicator 14.7.1.1. Sustainable fisheries and aquaculture as a proportion of GDP
Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
Target 14.7. By 2030, increase the economic benefits to small island developing States and least developed countries from the sustainable use of marine resources, including through sustainable management of fisheries, aquaculture and tourism
Indicator 14.7.1. Sustainable fisheries as a proportion of GDP in small island developing States, least developed countries and all countries
Sub-indicator 14.7.1.1. Sustainable fisheries and aquaculture as a proportion of GDP
This indicator expresses the value added of sustainable marine capture fisheries as a proportion of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Steps for the calculation:
Percentage of fisheries and aquaculture relative to GDP:
where is the Gross Value Added of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and is the Gross Domestic Product (both for year t).
Breakdown of the GVA of marine capture fisheries and the GVA of aquaculture, based on the proportion of marine capture fish production to total fish production. This proportion is then multiplied by the percentage of GDP from fisheries and aquaculture:
where is the Gross Value Added of marine capture fisheries, is the marine capture production, and is the total fish production.
The value added from marine capture fisheries is then adjusted using the sustainability multiplier , corresponding to SDG indicator 14.4.1:
