More than 362.4 million passengers used public transport in August, 2.6% more than in the same month of 2024.
The annual rate for city transport increased by 4.0% and for inter-city transport decreased by 1.4%. Within the latter, it is worth noting the 1.8% rise in the bus transport.

City transport was used by more than 222.8 million passengers in August, 4.0% more than in the same month of 2024.
Metro transport increased by 3.2% in annual rate and City transport by bus increased by 4.5% in August.
More than 117.8 million passengers used inter-city transport in August, representing a 1.4% decrease as compared with the same month of 2024.
By mode of transport, the bus transport increased by 1.8%, whereas the air transport decreased by 0.3%, the maritime transport by 1.6%, and the rail transport by 5.9%.

More than 21.6 million passengers used special and unscheduled transport in August, indicating an increase of 11.7% in annual rate.
The number of special transport passengers increased by 15.7%, reaching more than 5.3 million users. Within this, school transport increased by 14.0% and work transport did so by 15.7%.
Finally, unscheduled transport increased by 10.4% as compared with the same month of 2024, with more than 16.3 million passengers.
The number of bus transport passengers showed the highest increases in Comunidad de Madrid (11.8%), Extremadura (10.7%) and País Vasco (6.9%).
The one decrease in bus transport passengers was showed in Cataluña (-0.5%) in bus transport.

Metro transport increased in all cities with this type of transport as compared with the same month of the previous year, except Valencia's, which decreased by 16.8%. Palma's metro registered the highest increase (56.0%).

The purpose of the Passenger Transport Statistics (PT) is to provide monthly information regarding the number of passengers transported by city transport (bus and metropolitan), inter-city transport (road, rail, air and sea) and special and unscheduled bus transport.
Road transport in researched through a simple survey. For rail transport, the number of passengers is calculated using the information provided by the railway operators (RENFE and other autonomous companies). The information for air transport is provided by Civil Aviation, and for sea transport, the number of passengers disembarked is compiled using information from State Ports.
