      What is Spain like? 25 maps to discover it, km2 by km2

      What is Spain like? 25 maps to discover it, km2 by km2 is a publication that enables attaining a global - but also detailed - perspective of the main socio-economic indicators from the 2011 Population and Housing Censuses. For the first time, and thanks to the collection of the geographical coordinates of the buildings, the INE has been able to generate maps that are independent from the administrative limits, with information to a level of 1km2 cells.

      On the one hand, the 25 maps appearing in this publication reflect the diversity of the different areas of Spain, and on the other hand, they permit analysing information that municipal maps cannot provide, and in a more detailed manner.

      The content of this publication is based on the selection of 25 basic indicators published by the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat) , most of which belong to the group of structural indicators.

      Spain at the start of the 21st century

      The first demographic censuses of the 21st century and the third millenium have been carried out referring to 1 November 2001. The information from these censuses acquires a special importance in this way because it will be a very well used reference point over the next few decades.

      The objective of this leaflet is to give an idea of the potential utility of census data, whose detailed definitive results may be consulted on INEbase. This is the main method of dissemination of the census information that helps the user, apart from consulting a list of preselected tables, to create the crosses of variables that best adapt to their specific information needs.
